Professor
Medicine
After receiving my Pharm.D. from the University of Lisbon, I received my PhD in Medical Sciences at Karolinska Institutet (KI) in 2005. After a postdoc at Harvard Medical School I started my research group at KI, became Associate Professor in 2016, and Professor of Molecular Physiology in 2020. In 2023 I joined the Department of Pharmacology and The Stanley and Judith Frankel Institute for Heart & Brain Health at the University of Michigan Medical School as Professor of Pharmacology. Our lab aims to identify the molecular mediators of the health benefits of exercise and to use this knowledge to develop novel disease therapies.
