Dr. Michael Holinstat is a professor in the Department of Pharmacology anda fellow of the American Heart Association. Dr. Holinstat also holdsappointments as Professor of Surgery and Professor of Internal Medicine.Dr. Holinstat’s research interests focus on understanding lipid,lipoxygenase, and oxygenase regulation of platelet signaling and functionand how it relates to regulation of hemostasis and thrombosis. He servesas the inaugural Director of the Platelet Physiology and PharmacologyPlatelet Core at the University of Michigan. Additionally, Dr. Holinstat serveson several national scientific and editorial boards including the workforcedevelopment committee at NIH, sub-committee on Hemostasis andThrombosis at the American Society for Hematology, and the Director forthe NIH CTSI-funded T32 training grant in clinical research. Dr. Holinstathas received a number of awards including the Kenneth M. BrinkhousYoung Investigator Prize in Thrombosis from the American HeartAssociation in 2012, the Young Investigator Award in Structure-Functionfrom the Eicosanoid Research Foundation in 2013, and the DistinguishedEducator Mentor Innovation Award from the Association for Clinical andTranslational Science in 2024. Dr. Holinstat has received numerous patentsfor various therapeutic discoveries to treat cardiovascular disease and hasbeen continuously funded since 2005. Dr. Holinstat’s development of anumber of first-in-class antiplatelet drugs include the 12-lipoxygenaseinhibitor (ML355) and prostacyclin receptor agonist (CS585); each of whichis in various stages of clinical development. Dr. Holinstat has over 100 peer reviewed publications in basic, translational, and clinical research, andhas spent the last 20 years training the next generation of scientistsincluding undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, clinicalfellows, and basic and clinical faculty.
