She/Her

Professor
Medicine

Dr. Hanson received her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University studying the calcium activated protein kinase CamKII. As a Helen Hay Whitney postdoctoral fellow at Yale Univversity, she began her career-long journey exploring the moleculear and cellular regulation of organelle structure, function, and trafficking. She launched her independent laboratory at Washington University in St. Louis and was named the Gerty T. Cori Professor of Cell Biology & Physiology in 2016. In November of 2018, she moved to the University of Michigan as Chair of the Biological Chemistry Department. She leads a dynamic research group studying how organelles and membranes that compartmentalize biochemical reactions within the cell are assembled, organized and maintained.
